Polyethyleneimine in designed nanocomposite based magnetic halloysite nanotubes for extraction and determination of gallic acid in green tea

An innovative and simple nanocomposite denoted as MHNTs@PEI was synthesized for gallic acid (GA) analytical sample pretreatment. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) functionalized was binded onto magnetic halloysite nanotubes (MHNTs) to inhence adsorption capacity. MHNTs@PEI was obtained only through two steps modification (amination and PEI modification). Characterizations showed that there are layers of synthetic PEI on the tubular structure of the material and magnetic spheres on its surface, both indicating successful synthesis of the nanocomposite. Furthermore, the adsorption isotherms and kinetic modeling showed that the Langmuir model and pseudo-first-order model fit the adsorption data, respectively. MHNTs@PEI achieved an adsorption capacity of 158 mg·g−1. Overall, the abundant adsorption sites significantly improved the adsorption performance of the MHNTs@PEI. Regeneration tests demonstrated that the MHNTs@PEI exhibits effective adsorption, even after undergoing five consecutive cycles. Optimization of key parameters (ratio, volume of elution, elution time and frequency) in the process of adsorption and desorption was also conducted. The limit of detection (LOD) and that of the quantification (LOQ) were 0.19 and 0.63 μg·mL−1, respectively, and the recoveries were 95.67–99.43 %. Finally, the excellent magnetism (43.5 emu·g−1) and the adsorption feature of MHNTs@PEI enabled its successful utilization in analytical sample pretreatment through the extraction of GA from green tea.

Examining the adsorption efficiency of iron oxide-decorated magnetic halloysite nanotubes for tetracycline elimination from solutions

In our research, we investigated the potential of HNT-Fe3O4, a magnetic adsorbent composed of halloysite nanotubes(HNTs) and iron oxide nanoparticles, for removing tetracyclines(TCs) from water. We utilized a range of analytical techniques such as FT-IR, VSM, XRD, BET, TEM, TGA, and SEM to characterize the materials. Furthermore, we evaluated HNT-Fe3O4’s capability to remove TCs from water, particularly noting the influence of solution pH on its adsorption properties. Results indicated that the adsorption process adhered to the pseudo-second-order kinetics, with the Langmuir model best describing the adsorption isotherms. The reusability study revealed that after six repeated uses, HNT-Fe3O4 maintained most of its adsorption efficiency. An adsorption–desorption experiment further confirmed its potential as a valuable adsorbent for wastewater treatment. In summary, our study underscores the potential of HNT-Fe3O4 as a durable and effective medium for TCs removal in water treatment.

Enhanced magnetic halloysite nanotubes for dye removal at different pH conditions

Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) have been extensively investigated for potential utilization due to their unique structure and properties as a type of natural, eco-friendly clay. The synthesis and modification of magnetic halloysite nanotubes was studied using several experimental techniques including SEM, TEM, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and BET. Dye absorption experiments were conducted to understand bonding using EDS, XPS, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy. In this study, we evaluated Sunset Yellow FCF (SY) dye removal as a model to understand bonding structures among magnetic HNTs, magnetic particles, and dye molecules. We focus on the interactions of SY-magnetic HNTs and characteristics of magnetization by VSM after SY dye adsorption, which highlight the notable features of magnetic halloysite nanotubes. We used different pH environments to study the behavior of magnetic HNTs after dye absorption. The application of these modified HNTs is promising for future organic dye removal and wastewater treatment.

Sono-enhanced heterogeneous Fenton catalysis: magnetic halloysite nanotube synthesis and accelerated free radical generation.

Although heterogeneous Fenton catalysis has captured increasing attention compared to its homogeneous counterpart, it still confronts some inherent drawbacks in use, such as the dilemma in solid-liquid separation and greater mass transfer resistance. Driven by the acoustic cavitation effect, herein, a sono-enhanced heterogeneous Fenton catalysis process was built to overcome the above two shortcomings, by rapidly synthesizing magnetic Fenton-like catalysts and accelerating electron transfer during the catalytic reaction. The results show that, compared to the traditional chemical coprecipitation method, Fe3O4 with smaller particle size and better crystallinity grew on the surface of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) by using the sonochemical strategy, leading to displaying the higher catalytic activity toward the degradation of methylene blue (MB, improved by ~2.5 times). In parallel, more •OH and •O2- were produced after the ultrasound was further introduced to the routine Fenton-like catalysis system, thus highly accelerating the removal of MB (improved by ~50%). Besides, benefiting from the robust chemical integration of Fe3O4 and HNTs, Fe3O4@HNTs-S had a lower iron ion leaching in use, showing superior catalytic stability. The speed, simplicity, and generality, together with the enhanced mass transfer rate, make the use of ultrasound an enabling methodology to improve the heterogeneous Fenton catalysis.

Design and Fabrication of a Retrievable Magnetic Halloysite Nanotubes Supported Nickel Catalyst for the Efficient Degradation of Methylviolet 6B and Acid Orange 7

AbstractMagnetic halloysite nanotubes based organic‐inorganic hybrid materials have elicited ripples of excitement in the area of water research and technology by the virtue of their hollow nanotubular structure, presence of adequate hydroxyl groups and tunable surface chemistry. Fascinated by these riveting benefits, a nickel based nanocatalyst has been designed wherein a bidentate chelating ligand “4‐aminoantipyrine (AA)” was anchored onto the surface of aminosilane functionalized magnetic halloysite nanotubes followed by its metalation. In a shorter time span of 30 min, the synthesized nanocatalyst showed outstanding degradation efficiency of 96.87 % and 96.22 % towards MV6B and AO7 respectively under neutral conditions. The ensuing nanocomposite in‐situ generates ⋅OH from H2O2 that aided in rapid degradation of MV6B and AO7 into innocuous products with unprecedented efficacy. Besides, the impressive magnetic attributes of designed Ni(II)@AA@APTES@MHNTs offer effortless magnetic retrievability with the aid of an external magnet and the catalyst could be recycled upto six consecutive runs. GC‐MS analysis helped in identifying the generated degradation products and provided valuable insights into the plausible degradation pathway of pollutants followed during the reaction. Through various studies, it is believed that the peerless advantages of Ni(II)@AA@APTES@MHNTs nanocatalyst will lay a foundation for treatment of wastewater containing devastating organic contaminants.

Design Approaches, Functionalization, and Environmental and Analytical Applications of Magnetic Halloysite Nanotubes: A Review

AbstractResearchers have long been committed to developing alternative, low-cost nanomaterials that have comparable capacity to carbon nanotubes. Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are naturally hollow, multi-walled, tubular structures that have high porosity, enlarged volumes and surface areas, and hydroxyl groups ready for modification. In addition, HNTs are non-toxic, biocompatible, inexpensive, abundant in nature, and easy to obtain. Magnetic nanocomposites have aroused widespread attention for their diverse potential applications in analytical fields and so magnetic halloysite nanotubes (MHNTs) have emerged as outstanding magnetic nano-adsorbent materials. Owing to their superparamagnetism, selective adsorption ability, and easy separation and surface modification, these captivating nanomaterials excel at extracting and enriching various analytes from environmental, biological, and food samples. The current review article gives an insight into recent advances in the design, functionalization, characterization, and application of MHNTs as magnetic, solid-phase extraction sorbents for separation of antibiotics, pesticides, proteins, carcinogens such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), dyes, radioactive ions, and heavy-metal ions in complex matrices.

Magnetic Halloysite Nanotube/α-Amylase Based Nanobiocatalytic Transformation of Food Processing Waste into an Active Fermentation Ingredient

The concept of “nanobiocatalysis” creates exciting opportunities for improving enzyme performance via immobilization onto nanomaterials. A nanobiocatalyst consisting of magnetic halloysite nanotube (MHNT)/α-amylase was evaluated to transform food processing waste into an active fermentation medium formulation for low-cost bioprocessing. A high loading of α-amylase (185.5 mg (g of support)−1) was achieved on the surface of MHNTs through polydopamine functionalization. We validated the establishment of an enzyme-support system retaining >89% catalytic activity (27332 IU (g of support)−1) with improved enzyme handling (>99.1% recovery) and reusability (>56% activity, 10 cycles). MHNTs remarkably improved the enzyme kinetics and thermodynamic characteristics along with operational and storage stabilities and mitigated the likely inhibitory effects of cellulose/metal ions as contaminants. In addition to facilitating a continuous production of reducing sugars from the extracted starch over 72 h, the nanobiocatalyst was equally effective in preparing a nutritive food waste hydrolysate as a fermentable medium substitute for batch culturing of E. coli and a single-cell protein (A. niger). The commercial relevance of waste hydrolysate was also investigated to promote calcite precipitation via Bacillus sp. induced biocementation. We evidenced that nanobiocatalyst-assisted “starch depolymerization” released more nutritional components into the hydrolysate suspension, easily accessible to growing microbial cultures.

Magnetic Halloysite Nanotube-Based SERS Biosensor Enhanced with Au@Ag Core–Shell Nanotags for Bisphenol A Determination

Bisphenol A (BPA) has emerged as a contaminant of concern because long-term exposure may affect the human endocrine system. Herein, a novel aptamer sensor based on magnetic separation and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is proposed for the extremely sensitive and specific detection of trace BPA. Moreover, the capture unit was prepared by immobilizing thiolated (SH)-BPA aptamer complementary DNA on AuNP-coated magnetic halloysite nanotubes (MNTs@AuNPs), and SH-BPA aptamer-modified Au@4-MBA@Ag core–shell SERS nanotags acted as signal units. By the complementary pairing of the BPA aptamer and the corresponding DNA, MNTs@AuNPs and Au@4-MBA@AgCS were linked together through hybridization-ligation, which acted as the SERS substrate. In the absence of BPA, the constructed aptamer sensor generated electromagnetic enhancement and plasmon coupling to improve the sensitivity of SERS substrates. Owing to the high affinity between BPA and the aptamer, the aptamer probe bound to BPA was separated from the capture unit by an externally-induced magnetic field. Thus, the Raman intensity of the MNTs@AuNP-Ag@AuCS core–satellite assemblies was negatively correlated with the BPA concentration. High sensitivity measurements of BPA might be performed by determining the decline in SERS signal strength together with concentration variations. The proposed aptasensor is a promising biosensing platform for BPA detection.

Degradation study of rutin as template from magnetic composite molecularly imprinted polymer supernatant samples by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry

Compound structure change of the template molecule from rutin samples might affect the selectivity and adsorption of molecularly imprinted polymers based on magnetic halloysite nanotubes (MHNTs@MIPs). In the present study, not only MHNTs@MIPs were successfully characterized by TEM, SEM, EDS, FT-IR, TGA and VSM, but related compounds and potential degradation factors of template molecule rutin were also investigated in the polymerization and elution process of MHNTs@MIPs by high-performance liquid chromatography together with photodiode array and tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-PDA-MS/MS) in negative ion mode. Nine flavonol components were detected in rutin active pharmaceutical ingredient samples, such as rutin, isoquercetrin, kaempferol-3-O-rutoside, isorhamnetin-3-O-rutoside, quercetin, kaempferol, isorhamnetin and two unknown triglycosides. Under acidic, basic, oxidative and solvent conditions, two common degradants with negative ESI-MS ions at m/z 317 and 349 were found. Meanwhile, protocatechuic acid and methyl ester were also observed as two characteristic oxidative degradants. Compared to above degradation results, rutin-dimethylsulfoxide adduct and oxidative degradant were observed in the synthesis supernatant, which demonstrated that appropriate solvents and strict control of the oxygen level were critical in the synthesis process. Therefore, degradation studies provide a solid foundation for the optimization of MHNT@MIP synthesis with rutin as a template, which can be potentially applied to other templates for further material performance investigation.

Synthesis of polydopamine coated magnetic halloysite nanotubes for fast enrichment and extraction of anthraquinones in brewed slimming tea

In this work, a magnetic halloysite nanotubes composite material modified with polydopamine (MHNTs@PDA) was synthesized through a facile and green synthesis strategy, and employed as an efficient adsorbent for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of three anthraquinones. The material showed very fast adsorption ability (adsorption time of 3 min), good reusability and strong magnetic response. The main parameters affecting the extraction efficiency of MSPE, including adsorption time, amounts of adsorbent, sample pH, salt concentration and desorption conditions, were investigated and optimized. By coupling MHNTs@PDA-based MSPE with HPLC-UV, the method exhibited good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9944) in the concentration range of 5–1000 μg L-1 and low limits of detection (1.0–1.5 μg L-1) for anthraquinones. Finally, the developed method was successfully applied to determine anthraquinones in brewed slimming tea, and the obtained recoveries were in the range of 73.5–119.1%, with RSD less than 9.7%.

Novel composite nanomaterials based on magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers for selective extraction and determination of rutin in fruit juice

In this work, with the attempt to further improve the selectivity, magnetism and loading proportion of existing adsorbents, a novel composite (MGO/MHNTs@MIPs) was synthesized by electrostatically combining molecularly imprinted polymer based on the surface of magnetic halloysite nanotubes (MHNTs@MIPs) with magnetic graphene oxide (MGO). Then some characterizations were done to prove its successful synthesis. Besides, the bonding experiment showed that it possessed a loading capacity of up to 132 mg·g−1, and the adsorption behavior of MGO/MHNTs@MIPs was elucidated by Langmuir isotherm model and Pseudo-second order model. By comparing its adsorption capacity to analogues, we concluded that the MGO/MHNTs@MIPs with the MHNTs@MIPs as basic elements exhibited higher selectivity (imprinting factor = 2.25) than that of MGO/MHNTs@NIPs based on MHNTs@NIPs for template rutin. Furthermore, a series of solid phase extraction conditions were optimized, and then the materials were used for the extraction and detection of rutin in fruit juice under the optimal conditions.

Synthesis and characterization of superparamagnetic graphene oxide assembled halloysite composites for extraction of rutin

In this work, a novel composite magnetic graphene oxide@magnetic halloysite nanotubes (MGO@magnetic Hal nanotube) was constructed to serve as an efficient solid phase adsorption tool for the separation of rutin by covalent binding of 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTES)-functionalized magnetic graphene oxide (MGO) and magnetic halloysite (Hal) nanotubes. In particular, the amino group of APTES reacted with the epoxy bond on the basal planes of MGO instead of the edges carboxyl group, so that magnetic Hal nanotube could be inserted between the layers of MGO to prevent aggregation more effectively. In order to prove that the composite was synthesized in the ideal way, characterization tests such as FT-IR, XPS, SEM and HRTEM were made in detail. More importantly, the MGO@magnetic Hal nanotube possessed stronger super magnetism (40.82 emu g−1) than MGO and magnetic Hal nanotube by VSM characterization. In addition, further experiments show the adsorption process could be described by pseudo-second-order model and Freundlich isotherm model. Besides, the adsorption capacity of rutin by the composite was also greater than that of rutin by the single material. Some key parameters in the process of adsorption and desorption were also optimized. Finally, MGO@magnetic Hal nanotube was successfully used for the extraction of rutin from health products because of its excellent magnetism and adsorption.

In-situ grown Ag on magnetic halloysite nanotubes in scaffolds: Antibacterial, biocompatibility and mechanical properties

A novel design of antibacterial and magnetic halloysite nanotubes loaded with Ag and Fe3O4 was reported. In detail, magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4) were immobilized on the surface of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) via electrostatic adsorption (termed as HNTs/Fe3O4). The magnetic HNTs/Fe3O4 was then modified by polydopamine to in-situ grow Ag nanoparticles by a redox reaction, forming a composite nanostructure of HNTs/Fe3O4@Ag. The HNTs/Fe3O4@Ag was incorporated into poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) scaffold fabricated via selective laser sintering, with the intent to endow the scaffold with robust antibacterial function and favorable cell activity. The results showed that the released Ag+ from the scaffold significantly against E. coli activity, with bacterial inhibition rate above 99%. Moreover, ion release behavior showed a scaffold enable to sustain release Ag+ over 28 days. Furthermore, Fe3O4 nanoparticles constructed magnetic microenvironment greatly enhanced cell activity and promoted cell proliferation. In addition, tensile strength of the scaffold increased by 52.9% compared with PLLA scaffold. These positive results suggested that the HNTs/Fe3O4@Ag nanostructure possessed potential in facilitating bone repair.

Simple and Efficient Detection Approach of Quercetin from Biological Matrix by Novel Surface Imprinted Polymer Based Magnetic Halloysite Nanotubes Prepared by a Sol-Gel Method.

Molecular imprinted polymers coated magnetic halloysite nanotubes (MHNTs-MIPs) were prepared through sol-gel method by using quercetin (Que), APTES and TEOS as template, monomer and cross-linker agent, respectively. The synthesized MHNTs-MIPs were characterized by fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, XRD and vibrating sample magnetometer. Various parameters influencing the binding capacity of the MHNTs-MIPs were investigated with the help of response surface methodology. Selectivity experiments showed that the MHNTs-MIPs exhibited the maximum selective rebinding to Que. Therefore, the MHNTs-MIPs was applied as a solid-phase extraction adsorbent for the extraction and preconcentration of quercetin and luteolin in serum and urine samples. The limits of detection for quercetin and luteolin range from 0.51 to 1.32ngmL-1 in serum and from 0.23 to 1.05ngmL-1 in urine, the recoveries are between 95.20 and 103.73% with the RSD less than 5.77%. While the recovery hardly decreased after several cycles. The designed MHNTs-MIP with high affinity, sensitivity and maximum selectivity toward Que in SPE might recommend a novel method for the extraction of flavonoids in other samples like natural products.

Polyaniline-Modified Magnetic Halloysite Nanotube-Based Magnetic Micro-Solid-Phase Extraction for the Analysis of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Beer Samples by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

Polyaniline-modified magnetic halloysite nanotube composites (MHNTs@PANI) were evaluated for the first time as an efficient adsorbent for the magnetic micro-solid-phase extraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from beer samples prior to gas chromatography-mass spectrometric detection. MHNTs@PANI were prepared from naturally available material halloysite by coating magnetic HNTs with polyaniline. After characterization, MHNTs@PANI were used to extract fluorene, phenanthrene, anthracene, pyrene, benz [a] anthracene, and chrysene via π-π and hydrophobic interaction between PANI and analytes. The effects of the amount of adsorbent, ionic strength, type of eluent, extraction time, and desorption time were investigated. Under optimum conditions, good linearity was obtained for the analytes in the concentration range of 0.05–100 μg L−1 with R2 between 0.9962 and 0.9991. The limits of detection were in the range of 1.64–14.20 ng L−1 and the spiked recoveries ranged from 78.8 to 114.6%. The proposed method proved to be efficient, rapid, sensitive, and reliable, which has been successfully applied to the determination of PAHs in eight brands of beer samples.

Effect of porogenic solvent in synthesis of mesoporous and microporous molecularly imprinted polymer based on magnetic halloysite nanotubes

A novel water-compatible magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (MMIP) was fabricated for sunset yellow dye removal by surface imprinting approach. The magnetic halloysite nanotubes were prepared by co-precipitation method and used as support for surface polymerization. The synthesis of Fe3O4 nanoparticles on the halloysite nanotubes were confirmed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Water and ethanol were used as polymerization solvents and the effect of porogenic solvent was investigated on final adsorption behavior of the polymers. The Brunauer-Emmett-Taller (BET) and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) techniques were employed for surface area and pore diameter assessments. The MMIP synthesized in water (W-MMIP) showed higher adsorption capacity (46.4 μmol/g) and selectivity (Ksel = 3.60) toward sunset yellow dye. The adsorption kinetic data were well-fitted by pseudo-second-order kinetic model representing the chemisorption of dye molecules onto the specific recognition sites of MMIPs. The intraparticle diffusion was assessed by Morris-Weber kinetic plots. The experimental data were assessed by the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption Isotherm models.

Amino modified magnetic halloysite nanotube supporting chloroperoxidase immobilization: enhanced stability, reusability, and efficient degradation of pesticide residue in wastewater.

Halloysite nanotube (HNT) is a natural bio-compatible and stable nanomaterial available in abundance at low-cost. In this work, HNT was modified by two strategies to make it suitable for supporting immobilization of chloroperoxidase (CPO). Firstly, Fe3O4 nanoparticles were deposited on HNT, so magnetic separation can be used instead of centrifugation. Then, the magnetic HNT was modified by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), which can provide amine group on surface of HNT and meanwhile inhibit the agglomeration of magnetic HNT. Then, HNT-Fe3O4 -APTES was linked with branched polyethyleneimine (PEI) to provide more amino for binding with enzyme. The so-prepared CPO@HNT-Fe3O4-APTES-PEI showed enhanced enzyme loading, reusability, improved thermal stability and tolerance to organic solvents than free CPO. For example, after 10 repeated uses, CPO@HNT- Fe3O4-APTES-PEI can maintain 92.20% of its original activity compared with 65.12% of activity of CPO@HNT-APTES-PEI and 45.69% of activity of CPO@HNT. The kinetic parameters indicated the affinity and specificity of immobilized enzyme to substrate was increased. CPO@HNT-Fe3O4-APTES-PEI was very efficient when it was applied in the degradation of pesticides mesotrione in wastewater. The degradation efficiency can reach 90% within 20min at range of 5-40μmol·L-1. These results ensure the potential practical application of this bio-materials in wastewater treatment.

An Approach for Magnetic Halloysite Nanocomposite with Selective Loading of Superparamagnetic Magnetite Nanoparticles in the Lumen

We present for the first time a method for the preparation of magnetic halloysite nanotubes (HNT) by loading of preformed superparamagnetic magnetite nanoparticles (SPION) of diameter size ∼6 nm with a hydrodynamic diameter of ∼10 nm into HNT. We found that the most effective route to reach this goal relies on the modification of the inner lumen of HNT by tetradecylphosphonic acid (TDP) to give HNT–TDP, followed by the loading with preformed oleic acid (OA)-stabilized SPION. Transmission electron microscopy evidenced the presence of highly crystalline magnetic nanoparticles only in the lumen, partially ordered in chainlike structures. Conversely, attempts to obtain the same result by exploiting either the positive charge of the HNT inner lumen employing SPIONs covered with negatively charged capping agents or the in situ synthesis of SPION by thermal decomposition were not effective. HNT–TDP were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and ζ-potential, and all of the techniques confirmed the presence of TDP onto the HNT. Moreover, the inner localization of TDP was ascertained by the use of Nile Red, a molecule whose luminescence is very sensitive to the polarity of the environment. The free SPION@OA (as a colloidal suspension and as a powder) and SPION-in-HNT powder were magnetically characterized by measuring the ZFC-FC magnetization curves as well as the hysteresis cycles at 300 and 2.5 K, confirming that the super-paramagnetic behavior and the main magnetic properties of the free SPION were preserved once embedded in SPION-in-HNT.

Selective recognition and enrichment of sterigmatocystin in wheat by thermo-responsive imprinted polymer based on magnetic halloysite nanotubes

Two thermo-responsive molecularly imprinted polymers (MHNTs@MIP and MCNTs@MIP) for the selective extraction of sterigmatocystin have been prepared on the surface of the magnetic halloysite nanotubes (MHNTs) and magnetic carbon nanotubes (MCNTs), respectively. 1, 8-dihydroxyanthraquinone, n-isopropyl acrylamide, methacrylic acid, ethylene dimethacrylate and dimethyl sulfoxide were used as the dummy template, thermo-sensitive functional monomer, co-monomer, cross-linker and porogen, respectively. The magnetic properties, adsorption properties as well as the temperature responsive behaviors of MHNTs@MIP and MCNTs@MIP were systematically studied and compared for the first time. Enough saturation magnetizations of MHNTs@MIP (9.42 emu/g) and MCNTs@MIP (10.54 emu/g) were obtained. MHNTs@MIP and MCNTs@MIP also showed controllable adsorption and release behaviors to sterigmatocystin in response to the temperature change (35 °C and 20 °C). Compared with MCNTs@MIP, MHNTs@MIP had higher adsorption affinity (KL = 0.120 L/mg), higher adsorption kinetic (K2 = 0.0100 g/(mg•min)) and higher imprinting factor (5.22) to sterigmatocystin. These results indicated that MHNTs@MIP was favorable adsorbent for the selective separation of sterigmatocystin. Furthermore, the elution conditions of MHNTs@MIP were optimized by response surface methodology. Under the optimal conditions, MHNTs@MIP coupled with high performance liquid chromatography were successfully applied to the selective recognition, purification, enrichment and detection of sterigmatocystin in wheat samples. The recoveries were calculated from 88.62% to 102.9% with RSDs less than 3.5 % and limit of detection of 1.1 μg/kg. This work provided a suitable carrier for the preparation of imprinted polymers and a practical approach for highly selective recognition and determination of analytes in real samples.
